Jaecoo Australia has announced the pricing and specification details of its new J8 SHS which will be offered here in one flagship – Summit – form, costing $59,990 plus on-road costs.

Its starting price slots it into the J8 portfolio $5000 upstream of the petrol-powered, five-seat Ridge AWD, with the extra cash netting you a significantly more powerful and efficient plug-in hybrid powertrain, more kit and two extra seats.
Headline equipment on the flagship, seven-seat J8 includes projector LED headlights, 20-inch alloy wheels, quilted leather seats with front massage, heating and cooling, dual 12.3-inch display, a head-up display, smartphone projection, a 14-speaker Sony sound system, 50W wireless phone charger, a panoramic sunroof, puddle lights, powered tailgate, second row window shades, colour ambient lighting and a 360-degree camera.
As per most of the Chery Group’s ‘Super Hybrid Systems’, the J8’s powertrain comprises a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine and two electric motors for a combined 315kW/580Nm.

The motors draw current from a 34kWh battery pack and in turn offer an electric range of up to 169km (NEDC), with the battery able to be recharged at up to 70kW on DC power.
Luggage capacity (VDA) for the first and currently only seven-seat J8 is rated at 200 litres with the third row in place and 738 litres with it stowed.
The first customer and demonstrator vehicles will arrive in local Jaecoo showrooms later this month, expanding the Aussie J8 portfolio out to three variants.
