2026 Jeep Compass outed and detailed

Third-gen compact SUV smartens up with boxier looks and mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric power options

UPDATE 06/05/2025: So it turns out the leaked images accompanying this report were the official reveal and media assets, and we now have confirmation of the third-generation Jeep Compass' key details.

To recap very quickly, the new Compass will be offered in both mild (108kW) and plug-in (145kW) hybrid forms along with three full battery-electric set-ups, the most frugal capable of covering up to 650km on a single charge.

The BEVs will span a front-drive 159kW single-motor system through to a 280kW dual-motor hero, though only a singular 74kWh battery pack – which can be recharged at up to 160kW on DC power, yielding a half-hour 20-80 per cent top-up – has been detailed thus far.

Measuring 4550mm long, the new Compass is now firmly knocking on the door of the medium SUV segment as opposed to the compact market, and Jeep is therefore drawing plenty of attention to the extra space offered inside both for occupants and luggage.

"Built upon the cutting-edge Stellantis STLA Medium platform ... the New Compass is one of the most compact vehicles manufactured from the platform while delivering 55 mm of additional legroom ... and an increased boot capacity by 45 litres, reaching up to 550L," the brand said.

Technology highlights extend to a 16-inch infotainment interface, a 10-inch digital cockpit, over-the-air updates, Matrix LED headlights, Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities and Select Terrain.

Full pricing and specification details will be announced closer to the new Compass' local launch next year.

ORIGINAL, 05/05/2025: Leaked images of a completely undisguised 2026 Jeep Compass have surfaced on social media ahead of the American Nissan Qashqai rival’s launch later this year.

The images, reposted by Brazil’s Quatro Rodas, fully reveal the third-generation Jeep Compass, which gets a stylish boxier look that picks up where the latest Avenger and Wagoneer S left off.

Pictured in both lime green and white, the car appears to have a blanked-out version of Jeep’s characteristic seven-slot grille, hinting that the vehicle we’re looking at might be the EV version, although a larger air dam lurks beneath the numberplate.

Other details include front headlights that look borrowed from the Recon 4x4 and rear lights that sport X-graphics, the latter interlinked by an LED light bar that features an illuminated Jeep logo.

The second white Compass rides higher than the green car and gets a more rugged front bumper complete with tow hooks, suggesting we’re looking at a more capable Trailhawk version.

Within, the third-gen Compass gets leather seats, the usual large central touchscreen, and what looks like a wood finish on a section of the dash.

Based on the Stellantis STLA Medium architecture, the Jeep Compass is related to the latest Peugeot 3008 and larger 5008, as the platform has been designed for vehicles that measure in length from 4300mm to 4900mm.

Once introduced, the Jeep Compass will come with hybrid, plug-in hybrid and full all-electric powertrains, with all-wheel drive available from launch.

The mild hybrid variants should be powered by Stellantis’ 100kW/230Nm 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine and a 21kW/55Nm electric motor, with transmission duties handled by a six-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The plug-in hybrid is expected to blend a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor to produce around 150kW, while a 21kWh battery provides for a pure EV range of around 85km.

As far as Compass EVs go, there could be as many as three, with the entry-level version primed to score a single 160kW e-motor, rising to 230kW for the mid-range offering.

At the top of the tree will be a 240kW dual-motor version which should offer the quickest acceleration. However, it will be the mid-spec model that will boast the longest range, offering up to 700km from a full charge of its 98kWh battery.

All versions get a 400-volt electrical system that should limit charging speeds to around 160kW, with a 20-80 per cent top-up taking around 29 minutes.

When it arrives, the US SUV brand has already promised its latest “affordable Jeep” would come standard with “best-in-class performance, and state-of-the-art technology”, hinting the new Compass will also introduce the firm’s latest driver assist tech.

Despite the evidence of the presence of what looks like a Trailhawk model, there’s no indication yet on whether the new Compass will receive Jeep’s ‘Trail Rated’ badge – the certification it awards to its most capable and rugged SUVs.

If it does, the latest Compass will lead its small SUV class for off-road traction, water fording, axle articulation, ground clearance and general capability.

With Australian-bound cars set to be built at Stellantis' Melfi plant in Italy, the new Jeep Compass is tipped to go on sale in Europe in the second half of this year, although deliveries Down Under aren’t expected until early 2026.
