Electrified 2024 Jeep Compass here next month

Pricing and spec details for Jeep’s refreshed small SUV range announced ahead of upcoming release

Jeep Australia has announced pricing and specification details for its overhauled 2024 Jeep Compass line-up, which will be hybrid-only for our market.

Due for release next month, the electrified small SUV range will comprise two mild-hybrid ‘e-Hybrid’ variants and two ‘4xe’ plug-in hybrids, split across two trim levels: Limited and Summit.

Pricing starts from $45,990 plus on-road costs for the base Limited e-Hybrid and tops out at $69,990 plus ORCs – before options – for the flagship Summit 4xe, and between them are the $54,990 Summit e-Hybrid and $61,990 Limited 4xe.

The adoption of electrification has resulted in a $4590 upswing in the Compass entry price compared to the model it replaces, but actually brings a price reduction of more than $1700 for other equivalent grades – at least for the e-Hybrids, with 4xe variants predictably being quite a bit more expensive than their petrol predecessors.

Said price fluctuations largely come down to the amount of power and technology on offer: the e-Hybrids are powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine outputting 96kW/240Nm and supported a 48V starter generator.

The small electric motor comes into play when travelling at up to 15km/h – ie: when parking and pulling away – and can temporarily provide a bit of extra torque under hard acceleration.

A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission makes the most of what’s available and sends power to the front wheels, contributing to the claimed 5.1L/100km combined fuel consumption.

The 4xe system, meantime, incorporates a smaller but gustier 1.3-litre engine good for 133kW/270Nm and paired with a 44kW/250Nm electric motor mounted to the rear axle for a combined system output of 176kW and the added bonus of all wheel drive.

A six-speed torque-converter automatic handles transmission duties this time around, while the motor is sustained by an 11.4kWh battery pack that provides an all-electric cruising range of 47km and a maximum speed of 135km/h.

Deploying both power sources together results in a claimed 7.3-second 0-100km/h time via the new Sport drive mode and a top speed of 200km, but – more importantly in this context – combined fuel economy of just 2.1L/100km.

Backing up the on-road performance are some enhanced off-road credentials, including an updated Selec-Terrain system (4WD Lock, 4WD Low, hill descent control tailored to the eAWD system) and Auto, Snow, Mud & Sand and Rock off-road modes.

Recharging the 4xe’s battery can only be done using AC power at a maximum of 7.4kW.

Beyond the obvious mechanical differences, you’ll find an identical equipment list between the two powertrains.

Highlights for the Limited variants include 18-inch alloys, a 10.1-inch infotainment system, wireless smartphone mirroring, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, cloth and leather upholstery, heated front seats and steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, 360-degree camera and adaptive cruise control.

The Summit builds on this with bigger 19-inch wheels, a dual-pane sunroof, full leather upholstery, ventilated front seats with power adjustment, LED projector headlights, active driving assist, hands-free power tailgate, sat-nav and privacy glass.

Headline safety gear across both grades comprises an active lane management system, autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, traffic sign recognition, blind spot monitoring, parking sensors and full park assist with stop.

Exterior paint colour choices extend to Alpine White, Colorado Red, Solid Black, Graphite White and Blue Shade, all of which can be had in tandem with a black roof (the default for Summit grades).

How much does the 2024 Jeep Compass cost?
Limited e-Hybrid – $45,990
Summit e-Hybrid – $54,990
Limited 4xe – $61,990
Summit 4xe – $69,990
* Prices exclude on-road costs
