The 2026 Kia K4 Sportswagon has finally made its global debut; however, the stretched Mexican-built five-door won’t be heading to Aussie showrooms any time soon – if at all.

Aimed very much at the continent, the K4 Sportswagon was revealed with four powertrain options: a trio of 86kW 1.0-litre turbo-triples – distinguished by their transmissions and the presence of a mild-hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) system – and a 132kW 1.6-litre turbo-petrol pinched from the Sportage.
The latter is the only one that’d really be of interest Down Under, but it’s weirdly paired with the old seven-speed dual-clutch automatic as opposed to the eight-speed torque converter now offered in the Sportage.

The Sportswagon’s 604-litre boot is 166 litres more voluminous than its shorter (lengthwise) sibling, but that margin shrinks to just 44L when referring to the MHEV wagons.
With the rear seats folded, the space grows to 1439L in the petrol models and 1317L in the MHEVs.
Save for the plumper rear end, the K4 Sportswagon looks identical to the hatch, and the same is true of the cabin and interior.

Kia Europe has confirmed a full-fat hybrid powertrain will be added to the mix later in the year, but that’s unlikely to improve the Sportswagon’s odds of making it to Australia – Kia’s local arm has confirmed it has no plans for the model.
While the brand is yet to say as much, carsales understands the huge local appetite for small and medium SUVs offsets the wagon’s rather niche appeal, especially alongside the locally offered hatch.
