The Finer Details

The second significant update of the fourth-generation GLE that was first released in 2019, the new Aussie range comprises six variants split evenly between three wagons and three fastback Coupes

There are two Benz-badged models and four high-performance AMGs, the latter split between the familiar 53 and 63 S designations.

The 300d has been replaced by the new 350d, while the 450d wagon has been dropped from the local lineup.

Pricing starts from $142,300 before on-road costs and introduces more technology, additional standard equipment and revised styling across the range.

The biggest mechanical change is the replacement of the outgoing GLE 300d with the new GLE 350d 4MATIC.

Rather than using the previous model’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel, the new entry-level SUV adopts a mild hybrid turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six producing 210kW/650Nm.

Despite the larger engine and significant performance boost, the new model is priced at $142,300 before on-road costs, making it $2600 cheaper than the model it replaces.

The GLE 450 Coupe remains in the range with its turbocharged 3.0-litre petrol six producing 280kW/560Nm, and a $500 price increase to $160,400.

Mercedes-AMG’s GLE 53 SUV and Coupe receive a revised version of the hot force-fed 3.0-litre inline six, lifting outputs from 320kW/560Nm to 330kW/600Nm.

Pricing has split, with the SUV climbing $8000 to $187,900 while the Coupe drops by $3000 to match it.

The flagship AMG GLE 63 S continues with its twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 that’s still good for 450kW/850Nm, but now costs $277,900 in SUV form and $279,900 as a Coupe, increases of $11,000 and $11,100 respectively.

Across the range, Mercedes has introduced its latest MB.OS operating system, allowing over-the-air software updates and supporting a new generation of AI-powered MBUX functions.

A new MBUX Superscreen incorporating three 12.3-inch displays is now standard, while MB.Drive driver assistance systems, AMG Line exterior styling and the Night Package are fitted across the Australian range.
