We’re inching ever closer to the global debut of the 2026 Mercedes-Benz g-Class, which means the speculative renders are getting increasingly accurate as prototypes start to appear on public roads.
The world went nuts when it learnt of the ‘Little G’ development a few years back, and slowly but surely, new information has been coming to light.

What do we know so far? The g-Class was originally planned to be EV-only and will reportedly sit on a bespoke ladder-frame platform to ensure its off-road capability lives up to the hype, however it’s now widely expected to be offered with some sort of hybrid or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain as well.
We’re completely fine with that as it will enhance the model’s appeal massively and make it more dependable away from civilisation – ain’t no charging stations on the Holland Track or Himalayas.
The heavily masked prototype these renders are based off sits squarely on the road like a puppy with a bad attitude – it doesn’t look much bigger than a Suzuki Jimny XL – but still dons all the signature details of the full-sized G wagon: lots of straight lines, hard angles, round lights, flared arches, and an upright windscreen.
The rendered vehicle looks a little bigger than the real thing, but not by too much, and goes without the prototypes roof rails in an AMG-esque way.
It was thought the ‘Little G’ would surface in an official capacity next year sometime but reports out of Europe now speculate it will launch in 2027, meaning we’re unlikely to see the little bus Down Under until 2028 based on Merc’s recent form.
Whenever it debuts though, there’s little doubt the g-Class will be a hit – just like its full-sized muse.
