2026 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross set for a glow-up

Next-gen small-medium electric SUV imagined ahead of its Q3 global debut

There’s a new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross destined for Europe, except this time the small-medium SUV will be offered exclusively as an EV and if these speculative renders are anything to go by, it will be quite a looker when it debuts in September.

Teased earlier this month, the 2026 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will share the bulk of its DNA with the Renault Scenic E-Tech and it seems that will extend to the exterior design as well.

Compared to the rather rounded first-generation Eclipse Cross that was offered with the choice of turbo-petrol or plug-in hybrid power, the new model will be a total overhaul and share virtually nothing in common with its predecessor beyond the nameplate.

The Scenic’s smooth and svelte flanks will be matched with a chiselled and contoured front fascia with definitive features, albeit with more straight lines than the donor, a unique grille and Mitsu-specific headlights.

These unofficial renders look pretty attractive to us but unfortunately there’s no guarantee the second-gen Eclipse Cross will be offered in our market, unlike the Euro-sourced and smaller ASX due here later in 2025.

Instead, Mitsubishi Australia’s first mass-market EV will be delivered by a new synergy between Mitsubishi HQ, Taiwanese tech giant Foxconn – more specifically Foxtron Vehicle Technologies – and Yulon Motors.

carsales understands the mystery model, which has already been cryptically teased in a shadowy group image, will not carry the Eclipse Cross nameplate when it enters local showrooms in the second half of next year.

Whether or not that leaves the door open for the Euro model to come here too remains to be seen, though we somehow doubt it in the short term on the grounds of import costs, product saturation and model cannibalisation – against the Foxconn model pending its size.
