Just a day after detailing its updated MY23 Eclipse Cross PHEV line-up, Mitsubishi Australia has released the pricing and specifications of the petrol line-up which – like the bigger Outlander – has gained a new LS Black Edition variant for 2023.
The new small SUV variant slots into the middle of the 2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross range, priced from $35,490 plus on-road costs – $1250 upstream of the standard LS.
The extra cash nets buyers a set of black 18-inch alloy wheels complemented by gloss-black door mirrors and skid plates, roof rail delete, black headliner, dimpled leather steering wheel, dark silver trim garnishes, grey stitching and synthetic micro-suede/synthetic leather combination seat upholstery.
Heated front seats and four-way power adjustment for the driver are also included as standard over the ordinary LS, which itself has benefitted from the addition of an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, blind spot monitoring, lane change assist and rear cross traffic alert for the new model year.
Just like its PHEV counterpart, the next-level-up Aspire – the XLS variants have been axed – has been given a cosmetic makeover with black exterior trim inserts, grille and contrasting silver highlights.
The flagship Exceed has also followed the PHEV’s lead, receiving a powered tailgate for 2023, whereas the entry-level ES scores rear parking sensors but ditches the 18-inch alloys in favour of 16s.
If you’re wondering whether or not the prices have been affected by the various upgrades; they have – but not for the base ES, which stays put at $31,490 plus on-road costs.
However, asking prices for the LS, Aspire and Exceed variants have increased by $750, $250 and $1000 respectively compared to their 2022 predecessors, meaning the internal combustion range now tops out at $42,990 before options.
No changes have been made to the Eclipse Cross’ 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, which continues to produce 110kW/250Nm and consume between 7.3-7.7L/100km depending on the drive configuration – all variants utilise a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
“With its evolved styling, efficient drivetrain, comfortable interior and impressive safety credentials, the latest-generation Eclipse Cross has impressed media and customers alike since its 2021 introduction,” Mitsubishi Australia CEO Shaun Westcott said.
“This suite of 2023 model year updates further enhances the Eclipse Cross range, adding key specification across several grades while introducing a high-impact new look with the Eclipse Cross LS Black Edition.”
First examples of the MY23 vehicles will enter showrooms next month, alongside the updated Eclipse Cross PHEV line-up.
