2026 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport replacement imagined

Spy imagery inspires a fresh render of Mitsubishi’s upcoming ladder-frame 4x4

The 2026 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport successor has been rendered in the wake of camouflaged prototypes appearing on public roads and, surprise surprise, it looks like an enlarged Destinator.

Using the latest Y63 Nissan Patrol as the canvas, digital creator Theottle draped the all-new Destinator’s tough-looking body over the Patrol’s to give us our best look yet at the upcoming Triton-based wagon which some have speculated could ditch its ‘Sport’ suffix and be known simply as the Pajero.

Such a move would align with Mitsubishi’s intent on positioning the ladder-frame 4x4 as its “flagship SUV product” – a role previously filled by the full-fat Pajero.

But no matter what Mitsubishi call the model, it won’t be a dedicated LandCruiser competitor; think more Ford Everest and Isuzu MU-X as per the current version.

With the latest-generation Triton being bigger, more advanced and significantly more powerful than its predecessor, it’d make sense for its wagon off-spring to follow suit with a longer wheelbase, wider tracks, bigger interior and a heap of extra tech.

Factor in the new twin-turbo-diesel engine, heavily updated platform, the proven SuperSelect II 4x4 system and a 3500kg braked towing capacity and it would seem the next-gen Pajero (Sport) could be quite the headache for Ford, Isuzu and Toyota, especially if it were to score some sort of electrification.

The new model is being kept closely under wraps by Mitsubishi and won’t make its debut until sometime next year, let alone enter local showrooms before mid-2026.
