Massive price rises of up to $10,000 have hit entry-level ninth-generation Toyota HiLux models with even the entry point to the rationalised range that goes on-sale in December up more than $6000.
These dramatic price jumps are partly driven by Toyota’s decision to axe both entry-level 122kW 2.7-litre petrol (about to fall out of emissions compliance) and 110kW 2.4-litre turbo-diesel (low customer demand) engines from the HiLux 4x2 line-up.
But there are price rises across the board, most between $3000 and $4000 (plus on-road costs) compared to the current model.
No pricing has been announced for the new HiLux BEV (battery electric vehicle).
The 150kW 2.8-litre turbo-diesel is now the only engine powering the HiLux. As a result, the new range kicks off at $33,990 (plus ORCs) for the Workmate single cab chassis 4x2 with a six-speed manual transmission.
That’s up on the current eighth-gen entry-level Workmate 4x2 – which is still on sale – offered at $27,730 in Low-Rider 2.7 and $32,870 in High-Rider 2.4 form.

The massive $10K hit comes when comparing the new Workmate double cab pick-up 4x2 auto (from $47,990) with the eighth-generation version powered by the 2.7-litre engine (from $37,730).
The rise from the 2.4-litre diesel equivalent (from $44,820) is a more palatable $3150.
The lowest price rise in the new line-up is just $460 for the Rogue dual cab pick-up 4x4 flagship (from $71,990). The new off-road oriented Rugged X is set at the same price.
As we’ve reported previously, the ninth-generation HiLux also drops from 27 to 16 models.
While Workmate, SR, SR5 and Rogue model lines are retained and the Rugged X added, individual HiLux models axed from the 2026 line-up include: e:

There is only one extra cab left in the new line-up, an SR cab chassis auto 4x4.
Amongst the popular 4x4 dual cabs, the cheapest model is the Workmate auto priced at $53,990 (plus ORCs), which represents a rise of $3570 compared to the outgoing model, which was powered by a 2.4-litre diesel.
The cheapest dual-cab where the 1GD 2.8 is carried over is the SR double cab auto 48V mild hybrid, which rises from $56,210 to $59,490 plus ORCs, respectively.
All dual cab 4x4 six-speed autos from SR grades up are now powered by a 1GD 2.8-litre engine with 48V mild hybrid assistance.
The highest-spec and price HiLux with a six-speed manual transmission is the $63,990 (plus ORCs) SR5 dual cab 4x4, a rise of $3320, while the SR5 dual cab pick-up 4x4 auto at the heart of the range is priced up $2730 to $65,990 (plus ORCs).

SR5 also offers a $2500 Premium Interior pack comprising black leather-accented upholstery, eight-way powered driver’s seat with lumbar support and a nine-speaker JBL premium audio system.
Its closest rival on price in the top-selling Ford Ranger line-up is the $66,390 Sport 2.0-litre biturbo, an engine that’s just been discontinued.
In separate stories, we’ve dealt with the exterior, interior and mechanical changes applied to the 2026 HiLux, but this is our first chance to walk through the equipment levels for each model.
The HiLux range will be offered with the choice of up to seven exterior paint colours depending on variant, consisting of Glacier White, Frosted White, Stunning Silver, Eclipse Black, Feverish Red, and the new Ash Slate and Sunglow.
Note, this is still not a complete list, but it’s the closest we’ve got so far – you can find the model walk and 2026 HiLux pricing at the bottom of this story.

With its comprehensive and affordable 4x2 line-up, Toyota has traditionally dominated this segment.
To the end of October 2025, it has sold 7089 examples, with the Isuzu D-Max its closest competitor (4710 sales).
Cheaper pricing was a key part of HiLux 4x2’s sales performance and while that’s been pretty much erased with this repositioning, it’s still very competitive with its rivals.
Sales will likely decline, but Toyota is forecasting that trend for HiLux overall anyway.
With every model priced-up and less models to choose from, Toyota is doing everything it can to help that forecast come true.
