Volkswagen has shown off more of its upcoming 2026 Volkswagen T-Roc small SUV ahead of its official debut at the Munich motor show on September 8, but it’s not due in Australia until the second half of next year.
Fresh sketches of the second-generation 2026 Volkswagen T-Roc have given us our best look yet at the all-new compact SUV that will debut VW’s new plugless hybrid tech.
Showing off its wide-mouthed grille, aggressive front aero blades, huge wheels and low stance, the new renderings initially look like the VW small SUV will look more like a Scirocco on stilts, but it’s thought the ‘real’ car will feature more conventional Tiguan- and Tayron-inspired design.
Despite releasing more teases, Volkswagen has yet to reveal all the juicy details regarding its new hybrid powertrain, nor any information on the high-performance 245kW T-Roc R that has already been spied testing.
Under the skin, the new T-Roc will adopt the Volkswagen Group’s MQB Evo architecture and largely mirror the powertrain line-up of the current Mk 8.5 Golf hatch.
Built to battle the Toyota C-HR, Hyundai Kona and Nissan Qashqai, the new T-Roc will come with Volkswagen’s latest driver assist tech that should include a more sophisticated adaptive cruise control with an auto lane-change feature.
The second-gen T-Roc is set to land in the second half of next year and could comprise an entire range of electrified powertrains for the first time in Australia – mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and now plugless hybrid tech – as the German brand future-proofs itself against the strict NVES emission rules.
