With the 2025 Mazda 6e now confirmed as a global model, it hasn’t taken long for digital creators to mock up their impressions of what a load-lugging wagon version would look like.
Based on Mazda’s previous form as well as Skoda’s, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to see the unofficial 6e wagon looks even better than the sedan on which it’s based, so much so we’re officially praying there’s a five-door version in the works.
Based on Mazda’s previous form as well as Skoda’s, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to see the unofficial 6e wagon – rendered by X-Tomi Design – looks even better than the sedan on which it’s based, so much so we’re officially praying there’s a five-door version in the works.
The discovery of this render comes less than a week after the third-generation Mazda6 was confirmed to be retiring before the end of the year, unofficially handing the reins over to the 6e in Europe and the UK.
Mazda Australia is yet to confirm any local plans for the 6e but has previously been cagey about the preceding EZ-6 concept’s chances in our market, largely ruling it out as a left-hand drive offering intended primarily for China.
The 6e’s UK confirmation however changes things as it means there will be a right-hook production run.
Intricate details of the 6e are still a little scarce for now, however we do know Chinese versions are offered with either a 68.8kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) powerpack or an 80kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NCM) battery, each sustaining a singular 180kW/320Nm electric motor mounted to the rear axle.
The prospect of a wagon version this is even more enticing given there are no rear-drive wagons left in the mainstream market – the closest you’ll get is the $80,065 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake, otherwise you’ll have to settle for a front- or all-wheel drive.
With the Mazda6 now effectively dead, the Skoda Octavia is the only medium passenger vehicle left available as a wagon, the next closest being the Subaru WRX Sportswagon.
Odds are the 6e won’t be able to compete with the standard Octavia variants on price if it comes here, but it might be in with a chance of worrying the flagship RS versions, countering the turbo-petrol’s stronger performance with rear-drive dynamics.
Fingers crossed for the wagon!
