Brisbane to Perth was only a warm up... Now, motoring.com.au is gearing up for another road trip with Mazda that crosses the better part of two continents. As part of the brand’s release of the all-new 3, Mazda is driving a fleet of eight of the small cars from its headquarters in Hiroshima (Japan) to Germany. The fleet began its 15,000km overland leg this morning from Vladivostok in Russia’s far East, having crossed the Sea of Japan onboard the freighter, ‘Makassar Highway’.
The trip will conclude in Frankfurt, in time for the car’s official motor show unveiling at IAA, the Frankfurt Motor Show in mid-September. And via motoring.com.au you’ll be there – at least for part of the journey.
motoring.com.au will join the ‘Mazda Route3 – Hiroshima to Frankfurt Challenger Tour 2013’ in Moscow and drive the home legs via Minsk and Warsaw to Frankfurt. Just two Aussie publications will take part in the trip.
In addition to Aussies, British, Czech, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese and Slovak representatives will get behind the wheel. The trip will be broken into seven overland legs spanning, says Mazda, “nine time zones and almost half the circumference of the globe”.
Stage one of the Challenge will cover 1400km and conclude on Wednesday night at Blagoveshchensk. The route, says Mazda, “running parallel to and often within view of the Chinese border”. Given the tensions in that part of the world, let’s hope the newest versions of Australia’s top-selling car are not used for target practice.
In the lead up to motoring.com.au’s participation, you can keep track of the trip via Mazda's own website and the Twitter handle #mazdaroute3. Read the latest news and reviews on your mobile, iPhone or PDA at carsales' mobile site...
