3 million for Mazda3
Less than eight years after production of the original model commenced, Mazda3 has hit a cumulative production total of three million unitsThe milestone was achieved in late April, making the Mazda3 the fastest-selling model in the Japanese brand's current passenger vehicle line-up.
Manufactured in three locations across the globe, Japan, China and Thailand, the Mazda3 is sold in almost 90 countries. The three-millionth example, a Japanese-specification five-door hatch, was manufactured in Hofu, Japan, the same plant where all Australian bound '3's are built.
"The Mazda3 embodies all three elements of Mazda's DNA: Distinctive Design, Exceptional Functionality, and Responsive Handling and Driving Performance," explained Mazda R&D head, Hirotaka Kanazawa.
"Its sustained global success has seen it grow into Mazda's mainstay model, and it now comprises a third of all Mazda vehicle sales.
"Ever since the first-generation Mazda3 appeared on the market, it has evolved to stay relevant despite the major changes in the automobile industry.
"As well as carrying forward and strengthening Mazda's brand DNA, it has evolved exceptional environmental and safety performance.
"As we celebrate reaching three million units, I would like to thank the millions of Mazda3 customers for their support and reaffirm Mazda's commitment to delivering outstanding environmental and safety performance balanced with driving pleasure that goes beyond your expectations," said Kanazawa-san.
