50th Anniversary Falcons: pricing announced

If you expected extra value at no extra price for Ford's commemorative Falcons, you're in for a pleasant shock

Ford Australia has announced pricing and packaging for its 50th Anniversary limited edition Falcons -- and the news is all good.

The six variants, as reported previously by the Carsales Network, are being built between June and October of this year to mark the half centennial of Ford's locally-built large car. Production of the XR6-based models began last month, with the G6E-based models to follow this month. Production of the original XK model commenced on June 28, 1960. Ford Australia claims that the Falcon is the longest-serving car name in the Ford world.

Kicking off with the XR6 ute in manual form, the limited edition model is priced at $32,950, driveaway. According to Ford, the reduction in price, allied with the added equipment is equivalent to an extra $9516 worth of value.

The added value for each of the six variants ranges from that figure of $9516 up to $12,199 for the XR6 Turbo sedan, says Ford.

"With a host of additional equipment at no extra cost and some very sharp drive away price points, we expect these unique vehicles will prove extremely popular with both new and existing customers," said Ford Australia VP of Marketing, Sales & Service, Beth Donovan.

"In fact the response to the 50th Anniversary program to date has been so positive that we are already looking at building additional vehicles to ensure we can satisfy demand."

"The total value equation is different for each 50th Anniversary model, but it ranges from just over $9,500 to more than $12,000 of added value at no extra cost," Ms Donovan said.

"Indeed the recommended offer price on these special edition models is actually lower than the Manufacturer's List Price of the core vehicle on which they are each based, so we're offering customers a compelling proposition and unique opportunity to really share in the 50th birthday celebrations for Falcon."

Prices for the limited editions (with the nett value component) are:

Sedan
Falcon XR6 50th Anniversary (6M): $36,950 -- $11,249
Falcon XR6 Turbo 50th Anniversary (6M): $45,950 -- $12,199
G6E 50th Anniversary (6A): $47,950 -- $10,237
G6E Turbo 50th Anniversary (6A): $54,950 -- $11,980

Ute
Falcon XR6 50th Anniversary Ute (6M): $32,950 -- $9,516
Falcon XR6 Turbo 50th Anniversary Ute (6M): $38,950 -- $10,521

For automatic variants of the XR6, add $1000 for the naturally-aspirated car and $2000 for the Turbo.

Commemorative XR sedan models are identified by 'Dark Stealth' colour-coordinated grilles/fog light bezels/rear bumper insert and 'Medium Stealth' highlights on the alloy wheels. The cars also gain the premium door mirrors (with integrated indicators) and tail lights from the G6. In addition, there are 'XR50' badges, exclusive stripes and what Ford describes as a "50th Anniversary fender feature" (the picture's worth a thousand words...).

Inside, the XR variants are trimmed with unique trim for the centre console/Interior Command Centre (ICC)/instrument panel/front doors, and further interior highlights include an embroidered XR50 logo on the seats, XR50 carpet mats/door scuff plates and 50th Anniversary instrument cluster graphics.

The naturally-aspirated XR6 is equipped with partial leather seat trim and 18-inch alloy wheels with "detail accent treatment". For the Turbo model, the unique extras consist of "leather-detailed seat trim", upgraded audio, reverse parking sensors and 19-inch alloys with "full colour accent treatment". Both cars come with dual-zone climate control and premium leather-bound sports steering wheel.

Limited edition XR utes are similarly specified, but without bumper insert, high series door mirrors, the fender feature and G6 tail lights of the sedans. Nor do they get the reverse parking sensors of the Turbo anniversary model. All the limited edition XR models will be offered with a new exterior colour, named 'Sunburst' -- a burnt orange with metallic orange/gold flecks. This colour (pictured) will also be introduced to the colour palette for the standard XR6/Turbo models.

G Series models kitted out for the anniversary gain 'Medium Stealth' colour-coordinated grilles/rear bumper insert and 'Light Stealth' coordinated fog light bezels/alloy wheels. As for the XR models, both the limited edition G6E and G6E Turbo can be further identified by new leather detailed seat trim with embroidered "50th Anniversary" logos, 50th Anniversary badge, fender feature and carpet floor mats, along with special interior trim on the centre console, ICC, instrument panel and front doors.

As standard, the limited edition G6E and Turbo models are fitted with 19-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels and satellite navigation with the Suna Traffic Channel system.
