If you’re looking for that next collector’s piece -- and have a spare $271,100 in your sky rocket -- Porsche has the very thing.
The 911 50th Anniversary Edition aims to celebrate the model’s half-century when it is unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September. It will mark 50 years since Porsche first presented the very first ‘901’ 911 to the public.
The limited edition model will be based on the Carrera S, and like the original, features a 294kW flat-six engine and rear-wheel drive, though with the wider all-wheel drive body of the Carrera 4.
To commemorate the year in which the original was launched, a total of just 1963 units will be produced. Porsche Australia says “a limited number” of these will make their way into local showrooms.
All 911 50th Anniversary Edition models will arrive as standard with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with special tuning to complement the new model’s increased track width. Other highlights include bi-xenon headlights, a sports exhaust, special matte black Fuchs-inspired 20-inch alloy wheels, as well as chrome trim strips on the front air inlets, the fins of the engine compartment grille and the panel between the rear lights.
Green labelling on the instruments with white pointer needles and silver caps on the instrument pivot pins are a nod to the original 911, as are Pepita-inspired tartan fabric inserts to contrast your choice of agate grey or black leather upholstery.
The gearshift level also matches the decorative panels on the dashboard, doors and centre console in brushed aluminium.
The low-volume special edition 911 will be finished in a choice of three paint finishes, a darker graphite grey, a lighter geyser grey metallic, or black monochrome. Each of the cars is further distinguished by a two-tone 3D-effect badge on the rear lid with the numbers ‘911 50’.
The insignia is repeated on the headrests, the tachometer, the aluminium door sill plates, and cup holder panel, together with the limited edition number of each car. Other exterior features include high-gloss window frames and aerodynamic sport design exterior mirrors on the door panels.
Available with manual or PDK transmisison options, the Porsche 911 50th Anniversary Edition can accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds (4.3 with PDK) and on to a top speed of 300 km/h (298 with PDK).
