A five-year-old boy was caught driving an SUV on his way to buy a Lamborghini

It was said that the boy was on his way to California to purchase a Lambo by himself after having an argument with his parents who refused to buy him one.

File this story under 'Only in America'... A five-year-old boy was allegedly caught driving his parent’s SUV on a freeway in the US state of Utah on his way to buy a Lamborghini.

Police stopped the boy on Monday after they spotted him driving for several kilometres down Interstate 15, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

They had initially thought the Dodge Journey driver was having a medical episode or was driving impaired due to the vehicles speed and inability to stay in the lanes. They soon discovered it was in fact a child who was dead-set serious on buying a luxury sports car.

Trooper Rick Morgan said that he first became suspicious that this wasn't a routine traffic stop when he approached the vehicle and couldn’t see the driver’s head from the rear window.

According to a Utah Police statement, the boy said the reason why he was driving on the road was that he had left home after an argument with his parents, who refused to buy him a Lamborghini and was on his way to a relative's house in California. He was then planning to go and buy a Lamborghini for himself.

“He might have been short on the purchase amount, as he only had $3 in his wallet,” The Utah Police said on Twitter.

The Police were able to locate the boy’s parents and get him and their SUV home safely.

It is understood that the boy was being watched by an older sibling who had fallen asleep. The boy then took the keys to the SUV off of a hook in their home, started the vehicle and began his short 2-3 mile journey towards California before being stopped.

No fines or charges have been placed on the boy or his family. A reminder to all parents and guardians to keep your car keys in a safe place.
