Performance icon HSV will use this year’s Sydney motor show to unveil a small-volume 25th anniversary version of the GTS
Holden Special Vehicles will wheel out a special edition 25th anniversary GTS at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show opening in Sydney on October 18.
Added performance will come from improved dynamics rather than increased power: The limited edition GTS will employ the regular GTS 325kW/550Nm 6.2-litre V8, augmented by upgraded, six-piston brakes with 50 per cent more pad area, along with new light alloy 20-inch wheels that bring a weight reduction of more than 22kg, and eight per cent less unsprung mass.
Apart from cosmetic changes such as “Vector” satin graphite hood scoops and side vents, the limited edition GTS will also come with HSV’s Side Blind Zone Alert that picks up vehicles travelling where the driver can’t normally see them, plus a few internal fripperies including seat embroidery, sill plates, EDI start-up screen and an ID plate.
At $84,990 before on-road costs, the six-speed manual transmission version of the limited edition HSV will be priced $2,000 above a regular GTS, although HSV says the additional equipment is valued at more than $7,500.
On the regular GTS, standard gear includes launch control, sports suspension with electronic dampers, limited-slip differential, tyre pressure monitoring, rearview camera, satellite navigation, leather upholstery, power front seats, Bluetooth connectivity and an 11-speaker sound system.
Optional equipment on the limited edition GTS will include Active Select six-speed automatic transmission ($2,000), a sunroof ($1,990), DVD player ($1,290) and Liquid Propane Injection ($5,990).
HSV will build just 125 limited edition 25th anniversary GTS models. According to HSV’s General Manager – Sales, Darren Bowler, “25 years is an important milestone in the HSV journey. We believe this 25th anniversary GTS truly embodies all that HSV stands for – race-bred performance, design and technology at a price that represents outstanding value”.
