The future of Lexus' L finesse design philosophy, and possibly its GS range, is on show at the Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne.
Designed afresh, the LF-Gh as it's know, forms the dramatic centerpiece of the Lexus stand at this year's show.
Lexus says its designed were asked to blend functionality, style, efficiency and environmental compatibility into the sleek new model, while at the same time retaining the brand's premium, luxury sports sedan feel.
"For this concept, Lexus designers studied characteristics that are often considered contradictory and difficult to execute together," said Lexus design division's general manager, Kengo Matsumoto.
"The captivating design of the LF-Gh concept examines the possibility of balancing what are normally opposing qualities, such as style and functionality.
"Although only a concept, we hope the LF-Gh will resonate with our customers worldwide and communicate our intention to once again advance ideas about the face of Lexus luxury in the years to come."
The rear-drive, hybrid-powered LF-Gh concept was designed to cover large distances at higher speeds, its aerodynamic shape improving efficiency without detracting from the car's "emotional appeal".
Inside the distinctive long greenhouse the designers have drawn generous interior room from the clever use of available space, while also proving excellent forward visibility, Lexus says.
Although not exposed to the public, the LF-Gh's driver's zone includes a meter panel and "intuitive" centre console functions, as well as a quirky three-dimensional analogue clock. As with all Lexus models, the interior uses high-end materials fitted with a high level of attention to detail.
"LF-Gh heralds a new era of Lexus design and demonstrates Lexus' commitment to innovative design and engineering – evidenced in Lexus' industry-leading hybrid driveline technology," said Lexus Australia's chief executive, Tony Cramb.
"LF-Gh's bold and aggressive design blurs the line between our growing hybrid and performance vehicle portfolios – offering the perfect blend of performance, fuel efficiency and looks.
"LF-Gh captures the essence behind all future Lexus vehicle design – call it 'L finesse 2.0' if you like."
