Mazda's press and PR machine will go into overdrive at the Australian International Motor Show when doors open October 18. Sydney's Darling Harbour Convention Centre will be the venue for the local unveiling of the new Mazda6 and Mazda had previously let slip it would be launching a new model at the show for the first time anywhere in the world. Now the cat's out of the bag, with the importer announcing the world premiere of an updated Mazda CX-9 will take place in Sydney.
While the Mazda6 is arguably the more important exhibit on the stand (both for the visitors to the show and Mazda Australia), it's the mechanically unchanged CX-9 that will be hogging the spotlight from the world's press. Powered by a 3.7-litre V6 driving through a six-speed automatic transmission, the CX-9 has provided sterling service for Mazda – selling 210,000 units around the world since its original release – and earning it a nip and tuck, along with some new comfort and convenience features.
The KODO styling theme applied to the revised CX-9 is a new corporate look already launched here with the CX-5 and soon to be revisited in the next-generation Mazda6. In a press release issued today, the manufacturer claims that the CX-9 has been refined inside, in addition to the outward cosmetic changes.
An upgraded infotainment system delivers "an intuitive HMI (Human Machine Interface)", which integrates premium audio, navigation and speech recognition systems. New safety features comprise Forward Obstruction Warning, Lane Departure Warning and High Beam Control.
It was announced in the press release that the upgraded CX-9 will go on sale in Australia late in the year, after the show has concluded on October 28.
