Alfa 4C Spider officially coming to Oz

Price yet to be announced, but don't count on change from $100k

Alfa Romeo's 4C Spider is definitely scheduled for launch in Australia from November. FCA made the announcement on Friday, ending any doubts that the Spider would go on sale here.

However, the importer is not yet ready to reveal local pricing. In the UK, the coupe is priced from £45,000 (equivalent to AUD $91,966, versus the $89,000 we actually pay here). In contrast, the Spider is £14,000 more expensive, at £59,000. That's equivalent to AUD $120,578. We would not expect the Spider to be priced that high in Australia, but it's anyone's guess until FCA comes clean.

All we can tell you for sure is that the 4C Spider will be powered by the same 1750cc turboed, direct-injected four-cylinder, matched to a dual-clutch transmission and driving to the rear wheels. Peak power and torque are 177kW and 350Nm. With a weight penalty of just 10kg, the Spider should still be a force to reckon with on the track.

"The all-new 4C Spider builds on Alfa Romeo's proud heritage of motorsport success and cutting-edge technology, offering an open-air driving experience that is pure excitement," said FCA Australia CEO Pat Dougherty, as quoted in a press release.

"A true convertible supercar, the 4C Spider delivers open-topped thrills without rival."
