The new 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Sport has arrived Down Under, heralding an upgrade for the Italian brand’s SUV and a higher entry point that brings more standard equipment but increases pricing by more than $3500.
Priced from $69,450 plus on-road costs, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Sport replaces the previous entry model that was simply known as Stelvio and kicked off the range at $65,900 plus ORCs.
The diesel-powered Stelvio has also been dropped, leaving the new 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Sport as the entry point to the range and prompting the car-maker to claim that it “brings more than eight per cent added value compared to the Stelvio base it replaces, with key improvements across comfort, technology and convenience”.
These features include automatic high beam assist and adaptive cruise control as standard.
Other safety gear to feature standard on the Stelvio Sport includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian monitoring, brake assist, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, driver attention alert, traffic sign recognition with intelligent speed control and an infrared reflective windscreen.
Fresh design elements include red brake callipers that sit behind 19-inch alloy wheels, rear tinted windows, a heated leather-clad sports steering wheel, sports leather seats with heating up front, leather-bound gear knob, aluminium pedals and aluminium dash inlays.
A central driver-focused 8.8-inch Multi-Touch display is also on-board, bringing interactive widgets, full-screen maps and “performance management” features.
Power for the entry-grade Alfa Romeo Stelvio continues from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, good for 147kW of power and 330Nm of torque.
That’s paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox with power sent to all four wheels via Alfa’s Q4 all-wheel drive technology.
The premium mid-size SUV is claimed to cover the 0-100km/h sprint in 7.2 seconds. It’s also said to uphold its “near-perfect” 50:50 weight distribution, to deliver dynamic driving performance.
Optional extras for the base Stelvio Sport include a dual-pane panoramic sunroof ($2545), compact spare tyre ($595) and a Lusso Pack ($3455).
Exterior colour options available at no extra cost include Alfa Red and Alfa White. Meanwhile, buyers can option any of the following metallic colours for an extra $1645: Vulcano Black, Silverstone Grey, Vesuvio Grey, Racing Green, Anodized Blue, Montecarlo Blue or Perla Moonlight.
The company says further updates to the Stelvio range will be announced in the coming months, including the flagship 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio that was unveiled in Europe last year.
