All-new 2019 Peugeot 208 leaked

Official images of 2019 Peugeot 208 appear online days before global debut

Press shots of the all-new Peugeot 208 supermini have been leaked online ahead of its official unveiling on March 5 at the Geneva motor show.

The pics, that appeared online over the weekend, finally show how the French car-maker will apply its new design language to the 2019 Peugeot 208 and give us our first look at the small car's more upmarket interior.

Up front, the Peugeot 208 get the same LED daytime running strip lights that slice through the front bumper like a pair of fangs.

The small Peugeot 208 also gets a pair of headlights that look inspired by the same lamps used on the car-maker's 3008 SUV.

At the rear of the car, again, it's clear to see the heavy influence of both the 3008 and the recent 508 fastback as the 208 gets similar LED blade lamps and a black plastic reflector that stretches across the entire car.

Inside, the 208 is radically different to the current car with designers introducing the brand's latest approach to its i-Cockpit design that combines a small square steering wheel and high-mounted dash.

Featuring a large tablet-style touchscreen infotainment system, with the same piano key shortcuts as a 508, the 208 also comes equipped with a full digital instrument panel.

Sporty Alcantara seats and plenty of chrome highlight that Peugeot's use far higher-grade materials than the current model, pushing the 208 towards more expensive rivals like the Audi A1 and MINI hatch.

Expected to have an engine line-up dominated by the car-maker's small turbocharged 1.2-litre PureTech petrol and a new 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, the leaks also reveal that Peugeot will launch a pure-electric version at the Swiss show.

That's because the Peugeot 208 has been developed to sit on the new Peugeot-Citroen CMP (Common Modular Platform) small-car underpinnings that will also provide the basis for Opel's next Corsa and the all-new DS 3.

Cleverly, the new platform has been engineered from day one to accommodate a pure-electric powertrain and also slash weight over the current car's architecture -- with the all-new 208 rumoured to tip the scales almost 100kg lighter than before despite offering greater rigidity and crash protection.

The flagship zero-emission 208, meanwhile, is set to come equipped with a 50kWh lithium-ion battery and a 100kW single electric motor that should both provide sprightly acceleration (0-100km/h in less than 9.0 seconds) and a range of around 400km.

It's rumoured, later on, a more powerful 150kW pure-electric version will arrive that will be badged the 'GTI', alongside a traditional petrol version.

Growing to almost four metres in length, the 208's stretched wheelbase and short front and rear overhangs should translate into far more cabin space for passengers with crucially more leg, head and rear kneeroom for passengers in the second row.

Sadly, for fans of the old three-door, the sportier body type is thought to have been culled for the second-generation small Peugeot over cost cuts.

It's not known when Peugeot plans to launch its new 208 Down Under but all will be revealed soon as the French car-maker plans to revealed following the 208's public debut on March 5 at the Geneva motor show.
