All-new 2024 Porsche Macan EV to be revealed on January 25

Porsche’s new mid-size electric SUV teased again ahead of world premiere next week

Porsche has confirmed that it will pull the drapes off the all-electric 2024 Porsche Macan EV on January 25 ahead of its launch in Australia in the fourth quarter of this year.

The German sports car marque issued a fresh teaser overnight of the all-new mid-size battery-electric SUV’s tail-lights, but we’ll have to wait until next week before full details – including potentially local pricing and specifications – are released.

In Australia, the electric second-generation Macan is a direct replacement for the current combustion-powered range, which will be discontinued in the third quarter.

The Macan EV will offer a big step up in performance, with dual-motor versions delivering upwards of 450kW and 1000Nm of torque, while the 800-volt electrical architecture will enable fast-charging at up to 270kW.

Joining the Audi Q6 e-tron as one of the first vehicles to be based on the Volkswagen Group’s latest PPE platform, Porsche says the Macan EV will come with a 100kWh lithium-ion battery that should provide for a driving range of up to 500km.

Further boosting efficiency, the second-generation Macan also switches to a more svelte SUV-coupe shape that helps lower its drag coefficient to just 0.25Cd.

The sportier silhouette should also cement the Macan’s reputation as one of the most dynamically capable mid-size SUVs money can buy, and our recent experience acting as human ballast in a late-stage prototype suggests it should have what it takes to continue to rule the roost as one of the best-handling SUVs on the market.

Helping giving it the edge over its established rivals and newcomers like the Kia EV6 GT and the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is a rear-biased all-wheel drive system, adaptive air suspension and rear-wheel steering.

To help guarantee durability, the Macan has already endured more than 3.5 million kilometres in baking heat and in freezing temperatures on paved roads, gravel, snow and rough terrain.

Inside, the Macan EV should draw heavily from the latest Porsche Panamera, offering a 12.5-inch digital instrument cluster that can now display Apple CarPlay.

There will also be a new head-up display that will employ augmented reality to indicate what lane you should be in for more accurate turn-by-turn navigation.

As standard, the Macan will come equipped with a 10.9-inch infotainment system with an additional 10.9-inch display offered as an option for the front passenger, allowing them to stream video or adjust the infotainment or navigation.

Pricing for the Macan EV is still the subject of speculation, but expect a premium over the current petrol-powered SUV that starts from $93,800 plus on-road costs.
