Mitsubishi New Zealand has come up with a novel way to sell Tritons… Free goats! The campaign, launched this week, includes a free goat with every Mitsubishi Triton purchased.
Given the campaign is taking place in the Land of the Long White Gumboot, we can only assume a shortage of sheep has driven the move.
"We firmly believe that New Zealand's recovery is in the hands of the rural sector and they're the people who are buying our utes," said Mitsubishi NZ general manager of sales and marketing, Peter Wilkins, in the company's release this week.
"Goats, like our Tritons, are hardy, versatile units, which will integrate directly into existing farm operations".
"Goats improve farm productivity by providing an environmentally friendly defence against noxious weeds and they're a lot cheaper than toxic sprays".
"Goats also provide export commodities that can help improve our balance of payments… And, most importantly, there is no such thing as Goat Flu," he added.
For those replete of goats, Mitsubishi is also offering a No Goat Package. The package comprises five-year/100,000km extended warranty, and ongoing on-roads costs.
Mitsubishi Australia says it has no plans of following the Kiwis' lead locally.
The Carsales Network believes in part Mitsubishi Oz's reluctance is that adequately addressing the varying values of goats under the ACCC's new component pricing rules would make the campaign too difficult to implement.
