A new teaser image of the next-generation Alpina B3 Touring has been posted online confirming it will make its global debut at the Frankfurt motor show on September 10.
Releasing a single image of the G20 BMW 3 Series-based B3 BiTurbo, the small German tuning outfit is rumoured to pull the drapes off the fast wagon first before launching the sedan later.
Likely to be based on the current BMW M340i, the B3 BiTurbo is tipped to use its turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder as the starting point but with peak power boosted from its standard 275kW to around 350kW -- possibly more for the 'S' version that will no doubt follow.
Limiting how far Alpina can go with the B3 BiTurbo is the knowledge the next G20-based BMW M3 and M4 will produce around 375kW, so it's unlikely the two closely-linked car-makers will compete for ultimate power.
Like its M cousin, the B3 is expected to be offered with rear-wheel drive with the option of all-wheel drive later.
Following in the tyre tracks of other Alpinas, the B3 will come with a bespoke suspension tune that will feature adaptive dampers. Instead of being focused on Nurburgring lap times, expect the B3 to offer a more comfortable ride.
Featuring its own aerodynamically-tuned body kit, the B3 will also stand out from the aforementioned M3 and M4 and regular M340i with plenty of Alpina logos and a striking quad-pipe Akrapovic exhaust.
The next BMW M3 is unlikely to be offered as a wagon, giving Alpina the edge for that limited band of fast-wagon enthusiasts.
Inside, expected a handmade leather interior fitout with yet more decals and personalisation options not offered by BMW.
It's thought that when it arrives Down Under some time next year, the new Alpina B3 BiTurbo Touring will be priced at around $150,000 plus (ORCs).
