Nissan is set to replace its aging Maxima range with the all-new Altima in November, and these images -- snapped at Nissan’s Melbourne HQ this morning -- prove the model is nearing its showroom debut.
The Altima has been on sale in the US for the best part of a year, and locally will be specified similarly in terms of both equipment and driveline options.
It is offered with a choice of (136kW/244Nm) 2.5-litre four-cylinder and (201kW/350Nm) 3.5-litre V6 petrol engines, both mated to Nissan’s XTRONIC continuously variable transmission (CVT).
It is likely that Australian-spec Altima models will arrive in three variant types, reflecting similar nomenclature tiering to that of the current Pulsar range. Motoring.com.au understands the model walk-up will comprise Altima ST, Altima ST-L and range-topping Altima Ti variants across each of the available powertrain options.
In the US, Altima variants are equipped with features including Bluetooth telephony and music streaming functionality, tyre pressure monitoring, powered seats, cruise control, auto headlights and wipers, alloy wheels, remote engine start and a 5.0-inch colour display screen boasting infotainment and satellite-navigation.
The Altima range starts at $US21,860 in North America, but locally is expected to be priced from around $30,000 to just north of $40,000. The Altima, which forms the basis of Nissan’s new V8 Supercar assault this year, will compete in its standard form with medium segment competitors including the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Holden Malibu.
Nissan Australia says full Altima details, pricing and final specifications will be announced soon. Watch this space.
