The 2025 Deepal S07 medium SUV has been awarded a five-star ANCAP safety rating, matching the Toyota Camry for the equal-highest adult occupant protection score (95) recorded against the stringent 2023-2025 testing protocols.
The Chinese EV backed up this feat with an 86 for child occupant protection, 74 for vulnerable road user protection and 78 for its safety assist systems.
Headlining the scorecard were perfect scores for the driver in the side impact (T-bone) and oblique pole crash tests, and the front-seat passenger in the frontal offset (head-on) crash test.
“Maximum points were awarded for protection of child occupants in both the frontal offset and side impact crash tests,” testers said.
“A combination of ‘good’ and ‘adequate’ performance was seen, with mixed results in some of the more advanced autonomous emergency braking pedestrian test scenarios.
“A ‘marginal’ performance report was recorded for the autonomous emergency braking crossing scenarios where the S07 showed limited auto-brake performance when crossing the path of another vehicle.”
Those few blips weren’t enough to prevent a top rating however which in turn drew praise from ANCAP CEO Carla Hoorweg who was pleased by the consistently high performances of the myriad new brands and models entering the Australian market.
“We’ve seen a number of new brands enter the local market over the past year and they continue to impress in meeting the high safety standard Australian consumers and fleet buyers expect,” she said.
The S07 is only offered in a singular eponymous variant Down Under, priced from $53,900 plus on-road costs.
