The 2025 Kia Tasman, one of the most eagerly anticipated models of the year, has been awarded a five-star ANCAP safety rating straight off the bat.
Kia’s first ladder-frame workhorse impressed testers with category scores of 85 for both its adult and child occupant protection, backed up by a vulnerable road user score of 74 and safety assist mark of 80.
“The Kia Tasman performed well across the range of crash protection and collision avoidance tests,” ANCAP said.
“Notable high scores … were recorded for each of the adult and child dummy occupants in the frontal offset crash test.
“Equally impressive was the moderately low crash compatibility risk. For a vehicle of its size and mass, the Tasman performed very well.”
A concern was noted in the full width frontal crash test however where the pelvis of the driver dummy slipped beneath lap section of the seatbelt, drawing a penalty.
One key detail to be aware of is that the five-star rating only applied to the S, SX and SX+ dual-cab 4x4s – the bookend S dual-cab 4x2, X-Line and X-Pro are all currently unrated along with the upcoming single-cab and dual-cab-chassis variants. The only other dual cab ute to have nabbed a five-star rating against the 2025 protocols thus far is the BYD Shark 6; the GWM Cannon Alpha, JAC T9 and Mitsubishi Triton all hold top ratings as well, albeit against the 2024 criteria.
