Globally just 99 well-heeled individuals will get the chance to own the new Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Coupe. But at least a couple of them will be Aussies.
The latest rolling artwork from the Aston Zagato partnership that stretches back over 50 years, the Vanquish rework was unveiled just last month at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este at Lake Como (Italy), but overnight was given the green-light for production.
Just 99 will be built to order at Aston's Gaydon (UK) factory.
Local Aston Martin spokesperson Kevin Wall believes at least two of the V12-powered Zagatos will be purchased by Australian buyers.
“It’s very early days but there has been strong interest... I would anticipate that two, or perhaps three [will come to Australia],” Wall told motoring.com.au.
Aston says the production Vanquish Zagato will be “closely related to the concept”. Using Aston’s modular architecture, it will be powered by an uprated version of the company’s V12 and feature bespoke carbon-fibre panels.
“Other design details include new lights with round tail light reflectors that evoke the classic Zagato rear view, using the same 'bladed' LED technology as the Aston Martin Vulcan, while the wing mirrors are closely related to the units developed for the One-77,” says Aston Martin.
One unmistakable feature of the Zagato is its roof line which reprises the design house’s iconic 'double-bubble'. Says Aston: “A Zagato trademark since the early 1950s, [the shape] originally arose from the need to accommodate racing helmets with a minimum impact on the aerodynamic profile”.
There’s no mention of price in Aston’s release material on the new car. Wall too is not keen to discuss dollars.
“There are many factors, not the least of which is exchange rates,” he told motoring.com.au.
When pushed Wall conceded the final price-tag on local examples would probably top seven figures, adding: “The cars will be extremely bespoke, so it’s too early to talk exact price.”
Deliveries of the first Zagato coupe are expected to commence early next year.
