Audi reveals faster SQ5 Plus

Small SUV gets an extra 22kW/50Nm. Will now hit 100k/h in 5.1 seconds

Audi has announced it will soon offer an even more powerful version of its SQ5 SUV.

Called the SQ5 Plus, the small Audi SUV retains the SQ5 regular car’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 turbo-diesel but gets power and torque turned up to 250kW/700Nm.

With more power the SQ5 Plus is just a tenth of a second quicker to the 100km/h benchmark, compared to the regular SQ5 TDI while the Plus’ top speed remains limited to 250km/h.

To help justify, what’s expected to be, a hefty premium over the standard car the Plus comes with a standard rear sports differential that offers torque vectoring.

The Plus also gains huge 21-inch gloss black alloys with matching gloss black door mirrors, door handles, rear spoiler and diffuser.

Inside, there’s premium leather seats and a sliding rear bench seat at no extra charge.

Pricing has yet to be confirmed and the SQ5 Plus is expected to go on sale before the end of this year. It’s not known when we’ll get it.

Despite the extra power, the SQ5 TDI Plus remain one of the more frugal small performance SUVs with the fast mid-size SUV still able to average a fine 6.6L/100km -- exactly the same as the standard SQ5.
