BEIJING MOTOR SHOW: Skoda previews China-only Kamiq SUV

Skoda has released three images of the Kamiq SUV it will reveal at the Beijing motor show next week.

The all-new small SUV, rumoured to be given the 'Kamiq' nameplate, has been created by the Czech car-maker to rival other pint-sized SUVs available in the Chinese market, like the Hyundai ix25, Citroen C3-XR and Nissan Kicks.

Thought to be based on an updated version of the PQ25 platform that's shared with the Rapid sold in China, the latest Skoda SUV has been designed to sit below the upcoming Karoq and will be released with aggressive pricing designed to snare new buyers to the brand.

Strictly a front-wheel drive model, the little SUV will also come only with petrol power -- likely to be a 1.5-litre turbo four offered with both the manual and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions.

Later on, Skoda will also offer Chinese buyers a Kodiaq GT coupe that will swell the SUV line-up to four vehicles.

This, hopes Skoda, will double its sales to 600,000 vehicles a year by 2020. Last year Skoda sold 325,000 cars in China, making the world's most populous nation its biggest market.
