The Finer Details

Known as the 007 GT in China, the 7GT electric wagon will take the lead in Zeekr’s expanding Australian line-up, with local timing now firming for a launch towards the end of 2026 or early next year.

Geely Australia representatives in China indicated the sleek shooting brake EV is being prioritised for Australia as the brand looks to broaden its appeal beyond SUVs.

It will be positioned as a more style-focused and potentially more affordable alternative to the existing Zeekr 7X, which means it could start below $63,900 plus on-road costs.

However, pricing is yet to be confirmed and Zeekr execs were staying quite on the matter in Beijing.

The 7GT blends a low-slung profile with the practicality of a wagon body, a combination that remains relatively rare in the EV market.

The 7GT comes as either single motor rear- or dual motor all-wheel drive with a choice of 310kW and 475kW powertrains fed by 75kWh LFP or 100kWh NMC battery packs.

It is claimed to accelerate from 0-100km/h in as little as 2.84 seconds.

Following the 7GT, the larger 8X PHEV SUV is scheduled to arrive in 2027 as Zeekr pushes into more premium segments.

The 8X is expected to compete in the large luxury SUV category. carsales understands it is likely to be priced at around $90,000, positioning it against established premium electric rivals.

Based heavily on the larger Zeekr 9X flagship SUV, the 8X stretches to 5100mm long, 1998mm wide and 1780mm high, on a 3069mm wheelbase, making it almost as long as a BMW X7 and just a little wider than an Audi Q7.

The 8X will use the same fundamental triple e-motor set-up as the 9X and gets a choice of 51kWh and 70kWh NMC battery packs, the latter claimed to be the largest ever fitted to a hybrid vehicle.

The peak claimed power output is an outrageous 1030kW and an equally outrageous electric range up to 380km is claimed on the loose CLTC standard.

The Road Ahead

With the 7GT arriving first and the 8X to follow, Zeekr’s Australian expansion is set to accelerate over the next two years.

After only launching in Australia in 2025, the Geely-owned brand has already found major success here with the 7X, selling more than 1200 examples so far in 2026.

The other models in the range currently are the recently updated X and the slow-selling 009 people-mover.
