Bentley Mulsanne 6.75 Edition is last hurrah for big V8 limo

End of production for both ancient 6.75-litre V8 and luxo barge celebrated with special-edition

Bentley has announced it will give its long-serving 6.75-litre V8 a proper send-off by creating a special-edition version of its Mulsanne limousine.

The Bentley Mulsanne 6.75 Edition, said to be the work of its Mulliner personalisation division, is limited to just 30 cars.

As well as celebrating the end of the line for the large-capacity twin-turbo V8, Bentley says the limited-edition also marks the end of the current Mulsanne, which has already been replaced by the recently introduced Flying Spur sedan.

The final farewell, based on the current Mulsanne Speed, sees the Mulsanne 6.75 Edition produce exactly the same 395kW and epic 1100Nm from the British car-maker's huge 6.75-litre twin-turbo V8.

Combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission sourced from ZF, it can launch the big British limo to 100km/h in just 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 305km/h, despite weighing around 2.7 tonnes.

Special touches added for the 6.75 Edition include extra seat logos, more chrome badges inside and out and new LED puddle lamps.

Each of the 30 cars will come with unique chrome and wheel finishes plus an engine plaque signed by both the engineer who assembled it and Bentley's current CEO, Adrian Hallmark.

First introduced in the 1959 Bentley S2, the long-lived 6.75-litre V8 of today actually shares only its dimensions with the original car's donk – but is still being pensioned off due to Europe's ever-tightening emission regulations.
