Bentley says its new Arnage-based Brooklands model is the world's most exclusive coupe. Boasting the most powerful V8 engine the marque has put on sale, just 550 of the hand-built big banger two-doors will be built, with deliveries due to commence mid-2008.
Billed as "the ultimate Bentley", the Brooklands is "a stylish, four-seat, grand touring coupe with classic British proportions and muscular performance" says the carmaker.
The Brooklands was unveiled at Geneva show earlier this week. Just the thing to make those Swiss bankers salivate...
Bentley's boss Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen said of the new coupe: "Bentley's proud sporting pedigree, forged by the exploits of the immortal 'Bentley Boys' on the famous Brooklands racetrack in the 1920s (pictured), was the inspiration for our new coupe, capturing all the style, power and splendour of that era."
The Brooklands gets a 530hp (395kW) version of the marque's venerable twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre V8. Maximum torque is an amazing 1050Nm! The gearbox is a six-speeder -- automatic of course.
The Brooklands recalls the lines of classic handbuilt Bentleys of the past. That said, the new car is more spacious than more recent Bentley full-size coupes. All four seats are individually controlled and the maker says the Brooklands' interior leg, knee and headroom also easily exceeds those of any luxury coupe on sale today.
No indications yet on pricing ... But we're betting that the number will include plenty of zeros and won't be followed by "driveaway, no more to pay"...
