There's something undeniably exciting about taking a tour of a car design studio. And right now, Aston Martin is running one of the busiest designs centres in the world.
Based in Warwickshire, north-east of London, the Aston Martin design team is going at it hammer and tong, day and night, to deliver a raft of epic new sports cars over the next few years.
One of the key players tasked with interpreting the British brand's design language is Miles Nurnberger, design director at Aston Martin, and in a wide-ranging interview he talked candidly on many topics – including the idea of a three-seat supercar.
Over the past couple of years, the car design chief has been buried in a hypercar project that may never, ever be bested. We're talking about the world-beating, F1 race car-rivalling, Adrian Newey-crafted Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar project.
And with that finishing up soon, Nurnberger is now moving on to its baby-brother, the Valhalla supercar and the Vanquish – which you can McLaren 720S.
The upcoming 2021 Aston Martin Valhalla is also a pivotal car for the brand and looks hotter than a scorpion chili.
It's intriguing how many secrets are uncovered behind the closed doors of a car design studio… For example, did you know the Aston Martin Vantage sports car is known as the 'hunter' by its designers? Well, we certainly didn't until we chatted to Nurnberger.
This interview covers everything from his favourite Marvel superhero character, to whether James Bond would ever drive a mid-engined sports car. Nurnberger casually explains why cars look they way to do and talks about how influential the bonkers V12 hybrid Valkyrie hypercar has been in developing its two other mid-engine supercars.
Oh, and you'll never guess what one of his favourite cars is… It's an Italian machine, but not what you think! We hope you enjoy watching the interview as much as we enjoyed making it.
