In a dramatic bid to reverse a sales slump, Alfa Romeo has rolled out some massive five-figure discounts on older model-year examples of its Tonale small SUV, Giulia sedan and flagship Stelvio SUV.
The discounts come off the back of a dreadful 2024 for Alfa Romeo that saw volumes drop to just 561 units for the year. Things appear even worse in 2025, with year-on-year sales for the first three months already down by 43 per cent.
The deals, that apply until June 30, see the Alfa Romeo Tonale Ti with Tech Pack priced at just $45,990 drive away. The Giulia Ti drops to $59,990 drive away while the Stelvio Ti is priced at $69,000 drive away.
In NSW those savings equate to a whopping $17,200 off the price off the Tonale, up to $17,500 off the Giulia and a substantial $15,900 off the Stelvio.
Savings in other states and territories could be greater or lower, but the Italian brand is hoping the savings will reinvigorate sales and get more customers back into Alfa Romeo dealerships.
Topping the list for best value must be the Tonale Ti, which comes with $5490 in options. The list includes premium paint worth $1990 and a $3500 Tech Pack, the latter comprising blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, a 360-degree camera, traffic-jam assist and auto parking.
It’s not been confirmed but it’s been reported the discounts apply to 2023 model-year examples of the Giulia and Stelvio and even older examples of the Tonale, so it’s not known how many physical examples of each eligible Alfa is available.
Without a big improvement in sales, Alfa Romeo is on track to post its lowest volumes since its 1998 return to Australia, when it sold just 311 cars.
Perhaps more surprising is how, so far this year, just 35 Tonales have found homes, despite being more affordable and much newer than the Giulia (52 sales) and the Stelvio (32).
One car that could help turn around the car-maker’s fortunes Down Under is the baby Alfa Romeo Junior, but the small cut-price SUV won’t land until around the third quarter of this year.
