Biggest batch of Hyundai IONIQ 5 EVs on sale January 19

Larger 250-unit allocation to include new IONIQ 5 Epiq AWD flagship for the first time

The next allocation of 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5 electric cars will drop on Thursday, January 19 at 1:00pm AEDT, with this latest batch comprising 250 cars and including the new Epiq range-topper for the first time.

The allotment comprises 44 entry-level Dynamiq RWD models, 143 mid-range Techniq AWD variants and 63 top-spec Epiq AWD cars, all of which will be available to order in every state and territory for the first time.

Hyundai Australia says IONIQ 5 customers will only have to wait between two and four weeks to take delivery of their new EV, and that it has just expanded the number of ‘delivery agents’ (dealers able to deliver the IONIQ 5) to 25 locations nationally.

Low supply and high demand for IONIQ 5 continues

This is also the first time Aussies will be able to order the new Epiq flagship variant after it was omitted from the previous 200-unit allocation.

The newcomer is priced from an even $85,000 plus on-road costs and adds upon the specification of the Techniq AWD with features such as digital exterior mirrors, heat pump-based heating system, battery conditioning system and a fixed glass roof (with electric sun blind).

Flash but ultimately a stand-in flagship until the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N arrives next year, the Epiq features the same 77.4kWh battery pack as the rest of the 2023 line-up, which has in turn yielded more range and more power for the lauded electric SUV.

The Korean electric car looks unlike any other

The new battery grants the Dynamiq RWD a maximum driving range of up to 507km (+26km) and throws in another 8kW (168kW/350Nm), while the dual-motor AWD models are now good for up to 454km (+24km) and 239kW/605Nm (+14kW).

Hyundai sold 2432 battery-electric vehicles last year, the bulk of which were Kona Electric models (1096).

Supply has always been the Achilles heel of the IONIQ 5’s success in Australia, with demand outstripping the number of vehicles available. That’s been reflected by allocation sell-outs in less than an hour.

This latest round of cars is the biggest allocation since the IONIQ 5 launched in September 2021 – fitting given the line-up has never been as diverse.
