BMW 118i Sport and 218i Gran Coupe Sport arrive

Plus: BMW 320i and 330e also now available in sporty, but affordable, new model grade

BMW Australia has announced a new model grade for the 2022 BMW 1 Series, 2 Series and 3 Series, which are due to hit local showrooms next month to provide a more affordable option for buyers.

Launching by the end of the first quarter as part of the German brand’s Sport Collection range with revised pricing and standard equipment levels, the new Sport Line will be offered on the 2022 BMW 118i hatchback, BMW 218i Gran Coupe and two variations of the 3 Series sedan – the BMW 320i petrol and BMW 330e plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

Each Sport variant comes with a black exterior paint job along with revised features, while three of the four new grades will enter with drive-away pricing that ranges from $48,900 and $69,900, depending on the model.

Meanwhile, the BMW 330e Sport PHEV will cost $77,900 plus on-road costs.

Powered by the same 103kW 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine used in the M Sport grade, the most affordable 2022 BMW 118i Sport will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels – instead of the standard model’s larger 18s – and come with sports seats, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Parking Assistant, Driving Assistant and BMW’s Live Cockpit Professional, Intelligent Personal Assistant and Connected Package Professional.

To simplify Bimmer’s packages, you’ll get autonomous emergency braking (AEB), rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, cruise control (non-adaptive), parking sensors, a reversing camera and semi-autonomous park assist.

Moving up the line, the 2022 BMW 218i Gran Coupe Sport is priced at $53,900 drive-away and brings the same new additions as the 118i Sport, including smaller 17-inch alloys compared to the 18s found on the regular 218i Gran Coupe M Sport.

For reference, the 218i shares the same 1.5-litre triple-turbo engine as the 118i.

Each of the new 3 Series Sport grades add comparable equipment, however both the 320i Sport ($69,900 drive-away) and 330e Sport (from $77,900 plus on-road costs) ride on 18-inch alloy wheels and only the 330e adds a head-up display to its list of standard gear.

BMW’s 135kW 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine powers both the 320i and 330e plug-in hybrid, however the latter gets electric motor assistance that boosts output to 215kW/420Nm.

How much does the 2022 BMW 1, 2 and 3 Series Sport cost?
118i Sport – $48,900 drive-away
218i Sport Gran Coupe – $53,900 drive-away
320i Sport – $69,900 drive-away
330e Sport – $77,900 plus on-road costs
