BMW Australia has announced pricing and details for its new BMW 620d Gran Turismo model, a large liftback version of the 5 Series with just a bit more luxury.
The BMW 620d Gran Turismo is pegged at $99,900 (plus on-road costs) and arrives in October 2018 with 19-inch alloy wheels, air suspension and a panoramic glass sunroof as standard.
Slotting in underneath the BMW 630i ($123,500) and BMW 640i ($148,529) turbo-petrol models, the new 620d's 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine bangs out 140kW/400Nm which enough mumbo to propel it to 100km/h in 7.9sec.
The four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine pumps through an eight-speed automatic that transfers drive to the rear wheels.
Compared to its petrol siblings the 620d is more efficient; fuel consumption is rated at 5.4L/100km and CO2 emissions are relatively low of a vehicle of this size, at 142g/km.
Standard features on the BMW 620d include adaptive LED headlights, automatically adjusting high-beam headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, rear air suspension, a panoramic glass sunroof, power rear tailgate, head-up display, adaptive cruise control, steering and lane control assistance with lane keep assist and evasion aid, to name a few.
Electrically adjustable front leather-clad seats are designed to improve comfort levels, as is a 12-speaker stereo, while a 10-inch infotainment screen with Navigation System Professional and BMW Connected+ functionality is designed to offer in-depth smartphone and internet connectivity.
There's an options list that reads like a novel but BMW is offering a number of popular extras in special packages, including the M Sport Package ($6500) that adds fancy sports seats, M aerodynamic bodywork, trapezoidal chrome tailpipes, illuminated M door sills, an M leather steering wheel, fine wood interior trim, anthracite roofliner, new 19-inch alloy wheels and adaptive air suspension at both axles.
The Exclusive Package ($6500) brings Nappa leather upholstery, comfort seats with lumbar support and front seat heating along with 20-inch alloy wheels and adaptive air suspension for front and rear axles.
The Innovations Package ($1600) buys a multi-functional BMW Display Key and brings Remote Control Parking and gesture control to the car.
Finally the Comfort Package ($2700) adds quad-zone automatic climate control, electric rear seats, electric roller sunblinds for rear side windows plus front and rear seat heating.
Sales of the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo have totalled 64 units for the first six months of 2018, compared to the 83 Audi A7s that found homes.
