BMW 8 Series Heritage Edition on its way

Exclusive special-editions are actually $15,000 more affordable than donor 840i models

A strictly limited batch of just nine 2021 BMW 8 Series Heritage Edition cars are heading to Australia in the fourth quarter of this year, paying homage to the first BMW 8 Series grand tourer that launched here 30 years ago.

Based on the 840i grade and available in coupe, convertible and sedan (Gran Coupe) body style, the Heritage Edition models are actually priced $15,000 less than the equivalent model on which they’re based, despite exclusive features such as a unique paint/full-leather upholstery combination.

Limited to one choice for each body style, these BMW Individual colour combos are Frozen Marina Bay Blue with Merino Black upholstery, Frozen Black with Merino Ivory White leather and Frozen Dark Silver with Merino Tartufo/Black trim.

Each car will also get an exclusive ‘Edition Heritage’ numbered badge on the centre console, along with a BMW CraftedClarity Glass controller, engine stop/start button and gear selector, as well as Piano Black interior finishes and Alcantara Anthracite headlining in coupe and Gran Coupe examples.

As well as the special body colour, other distinguishing exterior markers include black 20-inch M light alloy wheels in a Y-spoke design, red M Sport brake callipers (not the blue pictured here on these pre-production models) and high-gloss M Shadow Line trim detailing.

The BMW 840i Gran Coupe Heritage Edition is priced from $189,900 plus on-road costs, while the coupe and convertible versions start at $192,900 and $207,900 plus ORCs respectively.

The 840i designation means the Heritage Edition models all come powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine (250kW/500Nm), driving the rear wheels through an eight-speed Steptronic transmission.
