BMW aware of C 63 price cut

But don't expect a reaction as new model roll-out continues
Don't expect BMW to respond to Mercedes-Benz's decision to cut the price of the C63 AMG in any other way than to keep on with the new model roll-out it has been engaged in all year and will continue into 2015.
Benz yesterday announced an $11,900 price cut for the C 63 AMG 507 Edition coupe just as BMW was launching the new generation M3 sedan and M4 coupe to Australian media across the ditch in New Zealand.
The new price for the naturally-aspirated 6.2-litre V8 nestles it in between the twin turbo inline six-cylinder BMWs and officially is being positioned as a run-out as Benz prepares for the new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 C 63 sedan and wagon due here early in 2015. The coupe rolls on until late 2015.
But the timing of the announcement suggests Benz was happy to take some of the attention away from the new M3 and M4 and get it focussed on its veteran warrior.
But BMW says it plans no response to the move.
"We are conscious of what our competitors do but we don't necessarily react in each case to it," said BMW Group Australia corporate communications general manager Lenore Fletcher. "We are just aware of it and we run our own race.
"It's difficult to speculate on what the strategy is for a competitor, but I am assuming the vehicle is in run-out of some description and that's quite a normal marketing move.
"It's not causing any ripples here."
Having already launched the 2 Series coupe and 4 Series Gran Coupe and convertible in Australia in 2014, BMW has as many as 10 more vehicles to come, ranging from ground-breakers such as the i3 plug-in electric car and front-wheel drive 2 Series Active Tourer to the limited edition 441kW 30th Anniversary '30 Jahre' M5.
BMW sales are up more than 10 per cent in Australia so far in 2014, although it still trails Benz, which is itself enjoying a sales spike this year thanks primarily to the new small front-wheel drive family led by the A-class.
Next year the BMW roll-out continues with highlights including the next generation 7 Series, X5 M and X6 M and the i8 petrol-electric sports car. BMW plans to import a batch of i8s for test drives as soon as October.
