BMW Australia has announced a 520i variant joining the range from September, priced below the current base model, the 520d.
Trimmed to the same basic specification as the four-cylinder diesel variant, the 520i will feature as standard 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, Driving Assistant Plus, Professional Navigation, Head-Up Display, Parking Assistant Plus, wireless phone charging and iDrive6. Unlike the 520d, the 520i will be powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 135kW and 290Nm for a combined-cycle fuel consumption figure of 6.2L/100km.
Pricing for the new variant is $92,200, but a 'Launch Edition' 520i priced at $99,900, inclusive of all on-road costs will provide buyers with an opportunity to step into a 5 Series for a drive-away price below $100,000. Additional equipment in the Launch Edition 520i comprise 19-inch alloy wheels, Nappa leather trim, automatic boot function, Dynamic Damper Control, front Comfort seats, front seat heating, Individual Anthracite headlining and High-beam Assist.
Buyers can also opt for the Launch Edition 520i with M Sport Package, adding M alloys (also in 19-inch diameter), M Aerodynamics Package, trapezoidal tailpipes in chrome, window surrounds in either satin-finish aluminium or high-gloss Shadowline, M Sport suspension, M badging on front quarter panels, sports seats, illuminated M door sills and M leather-bound steering wheel.
"We have been strongly encouraged by the new BMW 5 Series’ performance since its arrival in February this year," said BMW Australia CEO, Marc Werner.
"The 520i joins the range as a highly-equipped entry point, sharing specification with the popular BMW 520d.
"Now with three petrol engines, two diesels and the impressive 530e iPerformance plug-in hybrid, the BMW 5 Series appeals to a wider audience than ever."
