BMW M2 leaked

British car magazine Auto Express has leaked images and specs of the new BMW M2.

Set to be unveiled later today, Auto Express’ advanced screening of the new M division sports car reveals just how much work engineers have done to distance the M2 from the lesser M235i.

Under the bonnet of the M2, according to Auto Express, the new M2 comes with a turbocharged 3.0-litre in-line six that generates 271kW/465Nm, with an additional 35Nm liberated from the engine’s overboast function.

That’s enough to launch the M2 to 100km/h, from standstill, in just 4.5 seconds -- even quicker if you opt for the the DCT-equipped ‘box that shaves another two-tenths off the 0-100km/h taking just 4.3 seconds.

Unlike the previous 1 Series-based M Coupe, the new M2 will come with both the option of a six-speed manual and seven-speed dual clutch gearbox.

Running M2 specific suspension, brakes and even an extra water-cooler, the small BMW weighs in 35kg lighter than the M235i despite boasting a wider bodywork and coming equipped, as standard, with an M-spec limited slip differential (an option on the M235i).

Expect BMW to release more later today including when we’ll see the M2 on sale.
