BMW’s upcoming catalogue of M Performance Parts for the 2023 BMW M2 has been leaked online, revealing many of the key new cosmetic and performance add-ons that will be optionally available for the rabid new compact coupe.
Posted to Instagram by user wilcoblok, the new parts are perhaps even more extreme than the already controversial styling of the new M2 and, in our eyes at least, make the M2 look more like something out of the Mercedes-AMG Black Series portfolio rather than BMW’s M division.
Nearly all the visible parts – save for the decals – are made of carbon-fibre and comprise an aggressive front splitter that wraps around the ends of the front bumper, bespoke carbon intake trim, flush canards on the back of the wheel-arches, side skirt spats, forged wheels, a huge fixed rear wing as well as a roof spoiler and an entirely different rear bumper.
Said bumper relocates the quad exhaust outlets in towards the middle of the car and stacks them diagonally within a more aggressive rear diffuser.
The new M2’s already plump-looking butt cheeks have been made even more pronounced by the addition of slatted carbon-fibre inserts, the blades of which align with the previously mentioned canards. This unique trim bit then tapers down to a point in behind the rear wheel.
Many of these features were actually previewed in some of the earliest teaser images of the M2 released by BMW itself back in May, with the CS-spec alloys being the only real discrepancy – admittedly the car was thoroughly wrapped in an eye-bending camouflage wrap.
Social media has yielded mixed responses to the leaked parts portfolio, with some saying the components improve the M2’s styling, while others are straight-up disgusted.
There does seem to be an impartial middle ground garnering praise for some features but not others – as is usually the way when it comes to personal preference.
If the BMW M3 and M4 Performance Parts are anything to go by, there’ll be plenty more where these leaked parts came from, including carbon grille trim and mirror caps, coil-over suspension, an Alcantara and carbon steering wheel, carbon interior trim and shift paddles and dedicated puddle lamps.
“With components from BMW M Performance Parts, the motorsport DNA of BMW can be experienced on and off the racetrack at every moment,” BMW M says on its Performance Parts landing page, referring to the overall collection across all models.
“The products represent uncompromising quality, special aesthetics and dynamic perfection.
“Every single M Performance Part from BMW’s extensive and versatile portfolio makes an unmistakable statement.”
