BMW will use this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed to debut a lighter, faster and louder version of its ballistic M2 Coupe, dubbed the BMW M Performance Parts Concept.
Sporting equipment that is soon to be available from BMW’s extensive performance catalogue here in Australia, the M Performance Parts Concept shaves approximately 60kg from the regular M2.
It also adopts coil-over suspension offering 12 different compression settings and 16 different rebound settings, along with a 20mm lower ride height that promises greater dynamism over the standard car – motoring.com.au’s coveted 2016 Australia’s Best Driver’s Car.
Carbon-fibre is employed on the car’s side skirts, front splitter and rear diffuser, and the regular bonnet is also a carbon special – an 8kg weight saving on its own.
The concept’s boot lid and spoiler are new, while a lightweight weave radiator grille and side panels strip more kilograms from the M2’s 1495kg heft.
The BMW M Performance Parts concept also debuts a carbon-fibre roof and forged alloy wheels which offload 6kg and will also join the performance catalogue for everyday buyers.
It's understood yet more weight saving comes courtesy of a performance exhaust upgrade that saves another 8kg. There are no claims for improvement in either power or torque, but BMW says drivers will relish in its more vocal, sportier note.
BMW also says the concept’s radiator grille, wheels and bonnet will be available to punters from late July, while the car’s side panels will be available from November.
The carbon-fibre roof will join those offerings from March, 2019.
Inside, the show car bristles with carbon-fibre bucket seats, while the rear bench has been eschewed for two separate pews which strip a further 13kg.
Internally and externally, the concept makes use of somewhat gaudy gold trimiming.
Of course, you can expect some of these items to be standard fare on the forthcoming BMW M2 Competition.
