BMW M5 pics go public

Leaked images published by UK mag ahead of hot-house 5 Series official reveal on Wednesday

A new batch of pictures showing the next BMW M5 undisguised for the first time has reached the internet, just days out from the all-new German super sedan's official reveal this week.

BMW has revealed camouflaged versions of the car previously in an official video, and media outlets have already driven prototype versions of new M5 in prototype form.

The leaked images were published by British magazine Autocar following an official teaser video of the production model last week.

The new M5 is based on the current G30-generation 5 Series, but will arrive in the market wearing the development number F90. That indicates BMW's engineers set to work on the M5 before the broader 5 Series range was locked in, which supports the news that BMW is committed to launching its M cars sooner in the life cycle of the donor range.

It's already common knowledge that the new M5 will offer carbon-ceramic brakes, all-wheel drive and the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 fettled for 455kW/750Nm, coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission, rather than the dual-clutch gearbox of the current car.

Despite the additional drivetrain components, the kerb weight of the new M5 will be lighter than the current model's, thanks in part to the carbon-fibre roof. That, the traction and the higher performance will collectively knock about a second off the 0-100km/h time, which currently stands at 4.2 seconds.

Standard by for full official images and details of BMW's latest Mercedes-AMG E 63 fighter on Wednesday afternoon.
