BMW has shown off a new variant of the M4 that’s based on the 368kW M4 GTS road-legal racer set to land Down Under in the next few months.
Just 60 of the cars, called the M4 Competition Sport or CS for short, will be made -- all for Spanish BMW enthusiasts who were concerned the new M4 GTS might have been too hard-core for the country’s southern European roads.
Costing around $60,000 on top of the regular M4 coupe, the Spain-only M4 CS gets a boosted version of the standard car’s turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six. It misses out on the water-injection system, but now produces 330kW -- 13kW more that the M4.
Inside, the M4 CS also does without a half roll-cage and comes with sports seats rather than the M4 GTS' fixed buckets with four-point harnesses.
BMW Spain has yet to announce how much quicker the M4 CS is, but it’s unlikely to come close to offering the same 3.8 second dash to 100km/h as the M4 GTS, nor beat its 300km/h-plus top speed.
However, the CS does come with the GTS lightweight 20-inch alloys and carbon ceramic brakes that should contribute to a quicker 0-100km/h time.
All CS cars also come with an aggressive new aero kit and will be offered in three colours.
Pricing for the Spain-only M4 CS starts from around $210,000.
It’s not known yet how expensive the M4 GTS will be when it arrives in Australia in coming months, although the 10-15 cars that are coming here are already rumoured to have been sold for well in excess of $250,000 -- making them more than $100,000 pricier than the standard M4 coupe.
