Boosted range for entry-level Tesla Model 3

The most affordable 2025 Tesla Model 3 RWD can now travel further on a single charge for no extra cost, with the base-model all-electric sedan benefiting from a new battery.

Now capable of driving up to 520km – 7km more than before – on the European WLTP test cycle, the extra range comes from a larger 62.5kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

Replacing the previous car’s 60kWh power pack that afforded a range of up to 513km, the new power pack has been borrowed from the recently facelifted Tesla Model Y.

As before, the base-spec Tesla Model 3 RWD comes with a single rear-mounted e-motor that produces 208kW and 350Nm of torque. The output can launch the small sedan to 100km/h in 6.1 seconds, on its way to topping out at 201km/h.

Confirming no other changes have been made to the Model 3 line-up, the Tesla carries over its standard equipment and remains priced at the same $54,900 plus on-road costs.

Last year the Tesla Model 3 was Australia’s second favourite EV after the top-selling Model Y SUV, but this year the US car brand’s grip on the best-selling spot appears to be slipping.

In the first four months of 2025 sales figures suggest Tesla sales have slumped by as much as 61.9 per cent, although the debut of the facelifted ‘Juniper’ Model Y is tipped to boost the brand’s fortunes.
