Born-again XR8 teased

Ford reveals first image of its reinstated Falcon XR8 nameplate

Ford's teaser campaign for the upgraded Falcon to be launched in the final week of November continues with the reveal of its reborn XR8 nameplate, which will grace the first V8-powered Falcon in three years.

This image of the restyled XR8 badge, positioned on a honeycomb grille, follows the release of tightly-cropped pictures of the fresh FH Falcon's headlight and tail-light over the past week.

No details of the born-again XR8 sedan have been announced, but the new Falcon flagship is expected to be powered by the same 335kW/570Nm supercharged 5.0-litre V8 as the outgoing FPV GT, making it 45kW more powerful than the last naturally aspirated XR8 sold in 2011.

The final XR8, before it is discontinued for good along with the rest of the Falcon range by October 2016, should also feature Brembo brakes, sports suspension and a keener body kit shared with the 2015 XR6.

As revealed by recent spy shots, all facelifted Falcons – and the 2015 Territory, which will be launched soon after – will wear an all-new front-end dominated by a new-look Mondeo-style grille with large lower opening, plus a restyled rear-end with LED tail-lights.

Changes will be less extensive inside, where Ford Sync infotainment system is expected to be the most significant upgrade.

Watch this space for more teaser images in the lead-up to the final Falcon's full reveal prior to its November release.
